The Restaurants Association of Ireland claims the shortage in chefs here has reached "crisis point".
It is calling on the government to introduce a number of measures aimed at tackling the problem.
These include fast-tracking work permits to allow more chefs from abroad to get jobs in Irish restaurants and allowing refugees work while seeking asylum.

Rooskey man Andrew Reynolds is one of the many local businessmen who have experienced problems recruiting chefs.
On Tuesday's Bottom Line, he discussed the problem with Eoghan Murphy, who first asked him for some information on his own businesses.
