Hundreds of people attended an event to remember GAA legend John O'Mahony in Ballaghaderreen last Friday night. It was hosted by RTE's Gaelic Games correspondent, Marty Morrissey, in St Nathy's College.
The large crowd was enthralled by a three-and-a-half hour event that focused on the life and times of O'Mahony, who lived in Ballaghaderreen for many years and is from nearby Kilmovee. He managed Galway to All-Ireland glory in 1998 and 2001, and Leitrim to a historic Connacht title in 1994, during a glittering managerial career. He died 13 months ago, at the age of 71, after twice battling cancer.
Darragh O'Connor spoke to John's daughter Deirdre, Kieran McGeeney, Kieran Donaghy and Galway All-Star footballer John Maher after the event.
