Oireachtas members left wanting more information about Lough Ree power following meeting with the ESB

Oireachtas members say they have not received all the information they were looking for from the ESB this afternoon.

They were meeting to discuss the shut down and resulting fall out of the Lough Ree Power station in Lanesboro.

The plant went off line as it was revealed the ESB had breached their licence with the EPA four times and felt it would be in breach even further if it continued to operate.

The ESB will not restart work at the Lanesboro power station until an amendment from their license is approved.

Roscommon Galway TD, Eugene Murphy was in attendance and said he could not give an indication on whether the amendment would be approved and when the plan will be back in action.

He says that hot water being pumped into the Shannon was not an issue until the water levels in the Lough Ree dropped last summer, owing to the unusually hot weather period.

Eugene Murphy says that the ESB’s answers to the Oireachtas panel’s questions were mixed.
