Joe Flaherty takes up seat on Longford council

Joe Flaherty has officially taken up a position on Longford County Council having been co-opted to replace Padraig Loughrey at the December meeting of the local authority.

The former journalist was nominated by Fianna Fail councillor Seamus Butler, and seconded by Councillor Mick Cahill, to fill the vacancy which arose following Mr Loughrey’s decision to resign his seat in late October.

The newly co-opted councillor was warmly welcomed into the local authority by coucnillors from all sides of the chamber, and addressing the elected members for the first time, he said he was delighted and honoured to take up a role on the council.

Speaking to Shannonside FM, he outlined what he believes is the biggest challenge facing the county at present.
