Westmeath’s Joe McDonagh Cup Fixtures Revealed

Westmeath will have to wait until round two of the Joe McDonagh Cup to get their campaign underway.

Joe Quaid’s first championship match will see Westmeath host neighbours Offaly before entertaining Kerry in round two.

The five Joe McDonagh cup teams are Offaly, Laois, Antrim, Kerry and Westmeath with games played on a ‘round-robin’ basis with the top two teams progressing to the final.


The two finalists qualify for the Liam MacCarthy Cup All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Preliminary Quarter-Finals against the third placed teams in the Leinster & Munster Senior Hurling
Championship with the Joe McDonagh Cup teams having home advantage.

The winner, if a non-Munster Team, shall be promoted to the Leinster Championship and Liam MacCarthy Cup.

If the winner is a Munster team, must win the Play-Off with the bottom team in the Munster Championship Group to gain promotion to the Munster Championship and Liam MacCarthy Cup.

The fifth Placed team shall be relegated to the Christy Ring Cup.
