While posting the video on their twitter account, Athlone Town AFC’s account replied with a message.

“As can be seen from the attached official notification which we received in relation to this match it quite clearly shows the match as scheduled to be played tomorrow. We have never missed an underage fixture in and would not have missed this one had we the correct information.”

The Athlone Town account then replied again stating;

“We have offered to play the game tomorrow, at what we believed was the correct date and time, but unfortunately this has been declined. We apologise to all concerned and can assure everyone that it was not our intention to miss this game.”

In a statement to Shannonside Sport the FAI said;

“The FAI can confirm that the Under-17 Só Hotels Women’s National League game between Galway Women’s FC and Athlone Town fixed for Saturday, June 29th at 2pm, did not take place. The matter has been referred to the relevant disciplinary committee.”
