Galway WFC under-17’s walked the ball into the net as they recorded a ridiculous 1-0 win over Athlone Town in the women’s under-17 national league.
Galway WFC posted a video on their twitter account of goalkeeper Abbiegayle Roynane walking the ball into the net after Athlone Town didn’t show up for Saturday’s league game.
The match referee abandoned the game immediately per the laws of the game as there was no way the match could be restart 25 seconds after it began.
While posting the video on their twitter account, Athlone Town AFC’s account replied with a message.
“As can be seen from the attached official notification which we received in relation to this match it quite clearly shows the match as scheduled to be played tomorrow. We have never missed an underage fixture in and would not have missed this one had we the correct information.”

The Athlone Town account then replied again stating;
“We have offered to play the game tomorrow, at what we believed was the correct date and time, but unfortunately this has been declined. We apologise to all concerned and can assure everyone that it was not our intention to miss this game.”
