Buccs Host Corinthians On Friday Night

Buccaneers take on Connacht Senior League leaders Corinthians under the Dubarry Park floodlights on Friday night, kick-off is 8 p.m. writes Michael Silke.

Corinthians have made a richly promising start to the season with a 18-12 derby victory over Galwegians and then a bonus point 26-17 win at Ballina to head the league table.

A patchwork Buccaneers outfit were decidedly unlucky not to come away from Hamilton Park with a warranted win over Sligo and will be keen to get that winning feeling on Friday night.

Their mainly young side acquitted themselves very well against a physically bigger Sligo outfit, their younger players will take confidence from their efforts, both individually and collectively.

Head Coach Peter O’Donnell should have stronger options for selection this weekend if Rory Moloney, Evan Galvin and Corey Reid have survived Electric Picnic!

Hopefully Martin Staunton and Rory O’Connor will have recovered from the knocks sustained against Sligo and club captain Shane Layden could be fit for a return to action while Frankie Hopkins is another who could be in contention to start.

Meanwhile, Buccaneers U-20’s prepare for their season with a friendly at home to Dublin club Coolmine on Saturday. The action here gets under way at 12 noon in Dubarry Park.
