Buccaneers Underage round-up

Buccaneers U-15’s took on their old foes Galwegians in the first Connacht Division One League game of the year in Dubarry Park on Saturday and won by 26-3.

Buccs totally outplayed the boys in blue but had to overcome an overzealous referee, a stubborn defence and their own litany of handling errors.

Some superb phases of play were spoilt by knock-ons, forward passes and players running into touch. Newcomers Ryan Gahan and Conan Minnock acquitted themselves well with Patrick Egan, James Clarke, Danny Reid and Sean Rohan best on the day.

Buccs will have to up their game to compete with Corinthians in a fortnight but continue the squad’s progress with the Division 2 match against Ballinasloe next Saturday.

Attendance at training has been average so far and continues this Thursday from 7 to 8.30 p.m. in Dubarry Park. New players especially welcome.

Buccaneers: S Doyle, S Rohan, P Brazil, M Kenny, M Jurginas, P Dolan, J Clarke, P Egan, B Mulvihill, E Joyce, L Gossy, R Gahan, L Cassidy, S McCarthy, D Reid, M Fallon, C Minnock.

Under-16 Season Underway

Buccs U-16’s played their first game of the year in Longford on Sunday in a friendly match at CPL Park.

Longford were unable to field 15 players and Buccs Eanna McDonnell volunteered to play for the home contingent.

That didn’t stop Buccs from having a great start with debutant Joe Sweeney crashing over after 3 minutes.

Buccs continued in that vein and were three tries up before Longford got their first try with an interception. Luca Giles was in excellent kicking form and converted the Buccs tries.

Buccs brought on the rest of their 23 man squad at half time and should have scored a hatful of tries but managed to butcher numerous opportunities.

The Longford boys came back with a few tries at the end exposing Buccs tackling frailties.

Best for Buccs were Luca Giles and Alban Cepi in the forwards and Pierre Edmundson and Kevin Claffey in the backs.

Buccaneers: D Bolger, J Coyle, J Sweeney, L Giles, G O’Shea, A Cepi, C O’Brien, O Dolan, F McKiernan, P O’Lochlann, B Foxe, S McGrath, P Edmundson, C Daly, K Claffey, A Murray, S Keena, C Byrne, C McGloughlin, H Stuart-Trainor, E Burke, E McDonnell, O O’Donoghue.
