Buccaneers resume action in the Energia All-Ireland League with a lengthy trip south to Irish Independent Park to play Dolphin on Saturday at 2.30p.m.
The 3G surface should be an advantage to the hosts but Dolphin let a 26-7 lead against Ballymena there recently slip away in the final quarter with that game ending in a 26-26 draw.
However, the Corkonians responded to that disappointment by registering their first win of the campaign away to Nenagh Ormond last time out.
Long-serving captain Dave O’Mahony remains a tower of strength at lock for Dolphin for whom Daryl Foley is a very consistent placekicker.
Dolphin’s head coach is Robbie Doyle and interestingly his assistant forwards coach is Fiona Hayes. Married to the legendary John ‘Bull’ Hayes she was a formidable player in her own right when known as Fiona Steed.
Buccs will be hopeful that, following the free weekend, some more of their injured players such as Callum Boland, Torin Rensford and Rory Moloney will be fit for selection.
Shane Layden and Corey Reid both came through in the win over UL Bohemian and the fast surface could help Buccs favoured style of play.
Dolphin are propping up the league table and the Pirates will be targeting an away victory. If they play to their collective potential and are smart, then they can make a winning raid on Leeside.
