Buccaneers Club Notes Weekending March 10

Buccaneers club notes weekending March 10.

Old Belvedere 10 Buccaneers 31

Buccaneers U-20’s returned to winning ways when outscoring Old Belvedere 31-10 in their JP Fanagan Leinster League Premier 2 Division game played at Ollie Campbell Park on Sunday.

This comfortable victory keeps them in a highly creditable third place in this competitive division.

At time of writing, the U-20’s have no fixture but their match away to Dublin University could be rescheduled for this coming Sunday.

Girls Blitz success for Buccs Minis

Buccaneers Girls U10 and U12 Rugby Teams hosted a Blitz on Saturday 7th on the main pitch at Dubarry Park on Saturday.

There were five clubs representing Connacht and our local rivals Tullamore RFC fielding U-12 and U-10 teams including Connemara All Blacks, Corinthians, Claremorris Colts, Loughrea and Buccaneers.

In all over 100 girl players took part and who completely enjoyed the wintery conditions.

Before the blitz, the Buccaneers Clubs Internationals U-18 internationals & Connacht Representative Players Ivana Kiripati, Faith Oviawe and Zara Kurt-Elli gave a brief presentation of their enjoyable journey through mini rugby to their current status to the enthralled younger group.

The U-10’s played 3 matches and the U-12’s had 5 matches and all played very well in each competitive game.

Afterwards in the Lower Deck, we had a mini party where players enjoyed well deserved pizza and were presented with a Rugby Ball each courtesy of Connacht Rugby Development Officer Wendy Hickey.

The parents, mentors and coaches also enjoyed the coffee and scones break.

Training continues every Wednesday at 6:30pm for one hour and on Saturdays 11am – 12:30pm.

New players are very much welcome. Girls born in 2008 or 2009 eligible for U-12 and 2010 or 2011 are eligible for U-10.

Any older girls/women wanting to ‘Give Rugby a Try’ should contact Mele Kiripati – 083 845 2563.

Buccs home to Nenagh

Buccaneers host Nenagh Ormonde in the Energia All-Ireland League Division 2A at Dubarry Park on Saturday next, kick off 2:30pm

Pre-match function for Nenagh game

Buccaneers are holding a pre-match function for Saturday’s fixture with Nenagh Ormonde. For just €30 you can enjoy lunch with complimentary wine and match programme plus free admission to the game. Groups or individuals can be catered for.

Contact our Administrator Geraldine at 0861732711 to book.

Make or break match for J1’s

Buccaneers J1’s complete their Connacht Junior 1A League campaign with an absolutely ‘must win’ match away to Monivea at the Castle Grounds on Sunday, kick off 2:30pm.

Underfoot conditions are likely to be challenging and Monivea generally give little away on home territory.

As things stand, nothing less than a bonus point victory can save Buccs from relegation. Even then they will be hoping that Creggs win at Sligo and also deny the north-westerners any point.

Dual player Rory O’Connor scuppered this Buccs outfit earlier in the season but, hopefully, Buccs may somehow secure a late, great escape but they will need a minimum full squad on the day.

Spoil your mother with fashion show tickets!

Buccaneers Fashion Show takes place in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone on Thursday April second at 7:30pm.

Hosted by Mandy Maher of the Catwalk Model Agency there will be a drinks and tapas reception on arrival and there will be a prize for the best dressed lady.

Tickets would make ideal ‘Mother’s Day’ gifts and are now on sale at the hotel, The Bounty and Carrig Donn (Golden Island Shopping Centre).

Condolences

Deepest sympathy is extended to Jim Byrne and family, Clonbonny, on the death of his mother Mary.

Condolences are also extended to Lexie Stronge and family on the death of his mother Bridie, and to the family of the late Denzil Mills who played with Athlone RFC many seasons ago.

May they rest in eternal peace.
