The 27-year-old footballer was driving towards his home in Essex, east of London, when he was approached at a junction by the two motorcyclists who gestured they had a gun.

Carroll sped off in his Mercedes G-Wagon after the two men allegedly demanded he stop. He returned to the West Ham training ground and police were called.

London’s Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of an attempted robbery at gunpoint in northeast London, without confirming the identity of the victim.
