Saint Brigids got their defence of the Hodson Bay Hotel Roscommon senior football championship campaign off to a winning start with a 1-16 to 0-14 win over Padraig Pearses in Johnstown this afternoon. Frankie Dolans side went into the half time break leading by 1-08 to 0-04. joint captain and centre back Peter Domican was playing his first championship game for the club in three years. The early goal came courtesy of Brian Stack. Jack McDonnell kicked a penalty over the bar. Saint Brigids were leading by 1-13 to 0-10 with ten minutes to go but Padraig Pearses finished strongly and the Brigids Goalkeeper Shane Mannion made a tremendous save from a Pearses attack to keep them in the ascendancy on the scoreboard.
Saint Brigids are managed by Frankie Dolan and he spoke with Shannonside FM’s Willie Hegarty after the game. He is delighted with the win and it was a good competitive game. He outlined that after losing to Padraig Pearses at this stage last year they had a point to prove.

meanwhile The Kilmore versus Clann Na Ngael game was postponed due to a bereavement in the Clann na Ngael club
