For the third year in succession Roscommon will look to make the final two of the FBD League final.
The Rossies have won their two games to date which sees them top of their group. A win this weekend or even a draw will be enough to see them advance to a final against Galway.
The opening round was a comfortable win for Kevin McStays side who beat Sligo IT 6-21 to 0-14. It was a game that proved to be no benefit for the players or management with such an emphatic win.
Round two seen further college opposition with NUIG being their opponents. NUIG would be the strongest college side in the province and came into the game on the back of a victory over an experimental Mayo side.
The challenge proved to be a tougher one but the primrose and blue came out on top by six points, 1-17 – 0-14.
This Sunday Mayo make their way to Kiltoom and Western Gaels clubman Seanie McDermott expects a tough challenge.
“It’s a big game in relation it’s our first in the FBD League where we’re playing another inter county team and not alone that we’re playing Mayo who were All Ireland finalists last year so it will be a good test for us and we are looking forward to it”
From the two previous games the management have got to see a lot of different players and it will be expected that changes may be done for this weekend’s game.
“Kevin, Liam and Ger have been putting out different teams so far this year, that’s the nature of the FBD League to have a look at as many players as they can before they go picking their league panel”
With the National League two weeks away competitions for places in the panel is heating up and Seanie knows every player will be putting in a serious effort to claim a spot for the next few weeks.
“Everyone is fighting tooth and nail and everyone is doing their best to impress”
It may be January but its Roscommon and Mayo and it’s sure to be a game where both sets of players leave it all out on the field.
