Roscommon got their Christy Ring Cup campaign off to a flying start with a 20 points to 1-15 win over holders Kildare in Athleague.
The hosts held a slender 0-8 to 0-7 lead at the break, but the Lilywhites had regained parity before Jack Sheridan’s goal propelled them into a 1-13 to 0-13 lead with nine minutes remaining.
Roscommon were reduced to 14 men when Peter Kellihan received a straight red card just three minutes into the second half played.
They were still two points up after 68 minutes, but the Rossies scored the last four points to claim the win.
Roscommon scored the final five points thanks to Daragh Heavy, Conor Mullery, Noel Fallon free, Shane Curely and a final score from a Cathal Dolan free to secure victory.
Roscommon travel to London next Saturday for their second game in the Christy Ring Cup.
