Lisacul duo Denis Creaton and Sean Jennings had a surprise defeat at the hands of Claremorris brothers Patrick and Laurence Murphy at Saturday’s 60×30 Junior Doubles Connacht semi-final in St. Coman’s.
The first game started as expected with Creaton dominating play and helping Roscommon race to a 15-5 lead. However, once the younger Mayo brother, Patrick, began to find his rhythm, scores became much harder to come.
Soon the teams were level at 15 points each. In a nervy finish Roscommon ended up with a 21-17 win, but the momentum had very defnnitely changed.
In the second Mayo flew into a 12-2 lead and though Roscommon fought back to narrow the gap to three points at one stage, Mayo pulled away again to win 21-15.
The third was very disappointing from a Roscommon perspective as they were never in the game, with Patrick killing with both hands and Laurence improving with every rally, the Murphys took the third 21-8.
