40×20 Irish Nationals
Lisacul’s Denis Creaton had quite a good run in the 40×20 Irish Nationals held in Mayo venues last weekend as he reached the semi-final of the Mens ‘B’ before losing to Cavan’s Cormac McMahon.
On Saturday Denis showed there’s no substitute for experience with an excellent win over recently crowned Connacht U21 champion Oisin O’Cualain 15-10, 15-4. He followed that up with a solid win over Antrim’s Ciaran Crothers 15-5, 15-10.
In his semi-final against McMahon, Denis started slowly losing the first 4-15 but in typical fashion he fought back to take the second 15-12. The tie-breaker was nip-and-tuck before the Cavan youngster took it 11-7.
Denis’s clubmate Sean Jennings was earlier beaten in two straight games by Monaghan’s Conor O’Gorman, who went all the way to the final afterwards.
