Roscommon Camogie Team go in search of National Glory

If first you don’t succeed then try and try again, that phrase could well be used to describe the character of the Roscommon Camogie team as they complete their preparations ahead of their third major final in recent times.

The Roscommon ladies will take on their Dublin counterparts in the Division three league final on Sunday next.  The game will take place in Kennygad and will commence at 1.30.  The Roscommon ladies have suffered defeats against Armagh in a league final and also went down to Laois in a championship decider over the past couple of years and as a result no one would begrudge them their day in the sun this weekend if they were finally to end their long overdue search for national success.

Noel Finn and Noel Murphy have once again helped to mastermind this latest run which has gathered momentum in recent times with excellent performances against Tyrone, Kerry and Clare.  The Roscommon management team decided to time their preparations for the current season and when we caught up with Noel Finn in the days leading up to the big final he was eagerly looking forward to the big match.

Roscommon have lost to Dublin in the league stages of the competition but with a lot of training completed since that reversal the Roscommon manger is confident that his side will be more competitive this time round.  The injection of youth into the Roscommon set up has been a major factor in the Roscommon girls going on this run.  The management team will have a major task ahead of them when it comes to selecting a starting fifteen.  On that front the manager was at odds to point out that it’s a squad effort and a number of players could make a telling impact from the bench.

Sunday’s game will be one of the featured matches on Sunday Sport.
