Roscommon Under-20 Score Victory Over Leitrim

Roscommon scored a remarkable victory over Leitirm in Avantacard Pairc Sean MacDiarmada as it took extra-time to separate the two neighbours.

In the end it was just one point that separated the sides in this epic 3-17 to 4-13 win after Extra-time for the Roscommon side who will meet Galway in Wednesday night’s semi-final.

In high drama from the outset Mark Diffley found the Roscommon net twice in 10 first half minutes, the second from the penalty spot.

Roscommon’s scores from Paul Carey, Ronan Dowd and two from Daire Keenan made it a one point game nine minutes after the restart.

Five minutes later Oisin Bohan curled the ball into the net to give Leitrim a five point lead 4-6 to 1-10 with Paul Carey responding with Roscommon’s second goal.

The drama built to a climax as a Ronan Daly point and a Paul Carey free sent the game to extra-time at 4-8 to 2-14.

The extra-time had just as a many thrills and spills Dylan Ruane inched Roscommon ahead before James Fitzpatrick found Leitrim net to eventually see Roscommon lead at half-time in extra-time by 3-16 (25) to 4-9 (21).

Leitrim pulled themselves back into the game with a late rally off free’s before Brian Derwin sealed a 3-17 (26) to 4-13 (25) victory in injury time at the end of extra-time as Leitrim missed a last gasp free.

Roscommon will now face Galway in the semi-final next Wednesday in Dr. Hyde Park, throw-in TBC.
