Daly Day of Connacht Championship Dreams

Roscommon’s sturdy defence helped the county to the 2019 Connacht Senior football championship.

Anthony Cunningham’s side beat Galway 1-13 to 12 points in the provincial decider in Salthill. The winning side outscored the tribesman 1-08 to two points in the second half.

The Resolute defence of Roscommon was made up of the three Daly brothers from the Padraig Pearses club.

Man of the match Niall Daly catalogued the experience as “savage”

“you can see the scenes out on the pitch there.it means so much to Roscommon people. At half time 10 5 down no one gave us a chance. We just rallied the troops. lads dug deep went to place wed never been before.its just unreal. The scenes at the end makes it worth it”

Ronan Daly described the instructions given to them at half-time.

“We couldn’t get out of our half in the first half, we couldn’t get our hands on the ball. In the second half we decided we push further out on the kickouts try to win breaks out the field. We threw caution to the wind.  We pushed up and kicked on.”

Conor Daly praised the management team for the achievement.

“we’ve talked all year, whatever happens, we are going to tackle and tackle whether we are five or six points down. Staying competitive is the main thing Anthony Cunningham has brought”

Wingback Niall summed up the feelings of all three of them as “it’s unreal. It’s one of our dreams. We work hard. We are own worse critics. We work hard on our game and it’s a proud day for our mam and dad and Lorcan who’s gone away to San Fran”

Roscommon now enter into the Super 8’s as Connacht Champions and the three Daly brothers have earned their provincial medals.
