Alice Kelly was awarded goal of the year at the TG4 Ladies Gaelic Football all-star awards on Saturday night.
Kelly’s goal against Meath in the All-Ireland intermediate semi-final was voted goal of the year in a on-line poll ahead of the awards.
2It’s feels great to be here at the All Stars and to be representing Roscommon on the night” explained a delighted Kelly.
“It’s great” to win declared Kelly, ”there was really tough competition from really big football counties, Dublin, Cork, Galway.
“It was voted for by the public and Roscommon people love their football and they’re a great county to get behind you.”
Of the goal itself, Kelly laughed as she remembered finding the net in what ended up in defeat to Meath.
“I just remember thinking we badly need a score, so I thought might as well go for it and take a chance and it paid off on the day.“

While Roscommon missed out on an All-Ireland final, Kelly declared that 2018 would go down as special year in Roscommon Ladies football.
“It’s a massive step forward, it was a great year for Roscommon overall, winning the first Connacht title in 40 years and we were able to use that as a stepping stone.”
“We’re hoping to push and hopefully win Connacht again next year and go one step forward into the All-Ireland final” Kelly smiled.
