Michael Conlon Fined By Amateur Boxing’s Governing Body

Irish boxer Michael Conlon has been fined the maximum of 10,000 Swiss Francs by amateur boxing’s governing body for his post-Olympic Games defeat interview at the Rio games.

The Belfast fighter was controversially adjudged to have lost to Russian Vladimir Nikitin before he launched into an expletive-filled rant which prompted headlines throughout the world.

Conlan has since signed with Top Rank and is set to make his professional debut at Madison Square Gardens on St Patrick’s weekend, so it remains to be seen of he’ll pay the €9,300 fine to IABA.
