There were big celebrations in NUI Galway at the weekend as newly promoted NUIG Mystics secured their first Women’s Super League win in a nail biter against Meteors.

The sides went in level on 33 points apiece at half time but a change-up by Mystics on defence along with an on form Brittany Glasco proved the difference in the last quarter.

“It’s brilliant, absolutely brilliant I’m so proud of them they worked really hard,” said Head Coach, Mike Murray. “We switched it up at the beginning of the fourth quarter and it worked. We’re not scared of any of these teams.”

Ambassador UCC Glanmire maintained their lead at the top of the table in beating long-time rivals, Maxol WIT Wildcats, while Leah Fechko (21) and Mimi Clarke (20) were the top scorers for Pyrobel Killester to get them off to a winning start in their first game against Portlaoise Panthers.

Jermaine Turner netted 45 points in the Men’s Super League as Pyrobel Killester beat SSE Airtricity Moycullen 83-74 for their first win of the season.

“It’s good to get on the board,” said Head Coach, Brian O’Malley. “It was a tough game, Moycullen really took us out of our comfort zone, it was a battle from start to finish. Any win at Super League level is a good win because everybody is well capable and on their day, any team can turn you over. We certainly had plenty of things to reflect on from the first two weeks and hopefully we can keeping improving on things now.”

UCD Marian remain at the top of the table with three wins from three as they overcame Belfast Star, DCU Saints and Irish TV Tralee Warriors also took home the points from their clashes with UL Eagles and KUBS BC respectively, while UCC Demons defeated Griffith Swords Thunder.
