Wicklow made their goals count as they edged Longford 2-9 to 0-14 in Aughrim in a dead rubber O’Byrne Cup Game.
Wicklow came back right at the end of the first half to lead 1-6 to eight points as Rory Finn’s penalty six minutes from the break gave Wicklow the lead.
Longford’s first-half points came from Daniel Mimnagh 0-2, Dessie Reynolds 0-2, Iarla O’Sullivan 0-1, Darragh Doherty 0-1 (1f), Rian Brady 0-2.
Longford looked on the cusp of a third victory of the competition as two Rian Brady frees and one from Darragh Doherty saw Longford lead 13 points to 1-9 with three minutes remaining.
Chris O’Brien tapped in the rebound of a Dan Keane shot which dropped with two minutes remaining. Longford pulled one point back losing out 2-9 to 14 points.
The results was immaterial as Longford will now meet Dublin in the O’Byrne Cup semi-final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park next Saturday.
