Longford Town shot to the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division as late Sam Verdon and Peter Hopkins strikes secured a 2-1 win over Wexford.
Danny Furlong opened the scoring for Wexford with 16 minutes on the clock, riffling to the bottom corner of Lee Stacey’s net following Jack Doherty’s chipped pass.
Town were composed in their response, Adam Evans heading Sam Verdon’s cross straight at Corey Chambers on 34 minutes that was the closest Town came in the first half.
The Town were strongest in the second half, but it took until 75 minutes to draw level, Shane Elworthy’s left wing cross headed home by Verdon.
Six minutes from time Hopkins put Town ahead his shot taking a flying past Chambers with the help of a deflection.
Darragh O’Connor came close to a late equaliser for Wexford but blazed wide.
The victory and Shelbourne’s 1-0 win over Bray Wanderers see’s Town move top of the first division.
