Longford Town goalkeeper Lee Steacy was the hero as a number of superb saves helped his side earn a valuable 1-0 away win at Drogheda United.
Town deservedly broke the deadlock on 21 minutes, Shane Elworthy’s cross wasn’t dealt with by Drogs keeper David Odumuso, Sam Verdon slotted home from close range.
Steacy was the busier of the keepers as the home side dominated proceedings, town failed to create any chances for a second goal.
Drogheda forced a number of corners with Town keeper Lee Steacy pulling off two great saves just before the break to keep his goal intact.
Drogheda piled on the pressure in the second-half. Steacy pulling off a superb save in the 54th minute to deny Mark Doyle a certain goal.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute when substitute Brandan Bermingham saw red.
On 80 minutes Dylan Grimes cleared Drogheda’s Chris Lyons low drive off the line.
In the closing stages, Grimes brought a save out of Odumuso while Steacy pulled off a terrific save right at the end to deny Lyons.
