Cabinteely boss Pat Devlin admitted that luck will play a big part in the SSE Airtricity League first division play-off’s.
Longford Town host Cabinteely in the second leg of the first round of play-off fixtures having drawn nil-all last weekend, Drogheda United await the winners.
“Going through life, you need a bit of luck” explained Devlin. “This is a play-off final. It’s one game to decide who goes forward to face Drogheda”.
“You need a bit of luck. You need to play well; work hard and take your chances” added Devlin. “All combined are vital. You do need a bit of luck to get through.”
After three clean sheets against the Midlanders, Devlin added “Somebody has got to win it. It’s got to be decided on the night. Hopefully, it’s us. And if we deserve it, even better again. If we don’t deserve it and get a bit of luck, we’ll take that as well.”
“We had a very good game last week against Longford. I’m sure they thought they should have won; we felt we should have won. So, its all to play for” added Devlin.
Longford Town secured a scoreless away draw without the suspended Shane Elworthy and the ill Dean Byrne, while Aodh Dervan, Peter Hopkins, and Karl Chambers were all deemed unfit to start and settled for places on the bench.
All of these players are now available to start the second leg with Anto Breslin suspended, Kevin Knight is suspended for Cabinteely having being sent off last week.
The winner of the match will have first leg home advantage against Drogheda United in the next round of the play-offs beginning Friday October 18th.
