Cian McPhillips set a new national youth 1500 metres record at the AAI Indoor Games at the National Indoor Arena, Dublin.
McPhillips posted three minutes 46.42 seconds to finish fifth just 1 point 86 seconds behind the race winner John Travers, who has previously ran in two European indoor finals.
The Longford man broke Ciaran O’Lionard’s 14-year-old National Youth record of 3:50.86 and the 16-year-old’s was also just point 25 seconds off the national under-20 record.
Last week McPhillips broke the championship record at the National Indoor junior championships when he won the 1500 meters in 3.54.77.
