Longford got their Leinster under 17 campaign back on track with a 16 point victory over Wexford in a sun kissed Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.


Just 40 seconds were on the clock when Longford opened the scoring, Darragh O’Connell laying off for Jordan Martin whose hand pass found Peter Dempsey.

Dempsey blasting the ball past Wexford’s Anthony Larkin into the next for an excellent opening under the burning sun.

It set the scene for a fantastic opening for Longford Euan Finneran and Daragh O’Connell sending the ball over the bar before Conor Kehoe got Wexford’s first score on eight minutes, Longford leading 1-2 to 0-1.

Longford were excellent with the ball, the impressive Jordan Martin controlling the Longford attacks. Martin’s 12th minute shot saved by Wexford keeper Larkin.

Martin sending the resulting 45 over the bar with Emmet Nolan responding for Wexford with a point from play.

The hosts then ran in eight unanswered points, two from the impressive Martin, including a free with impressive scores by captain Emmet McCormack and Cian Dooner.

Wexford full-forward Lee Jordan completed the scoring bang on half-time to leave the score Longford 1-11 to 0-3.

Lee Jordan clawed back a point for Wexford a minute into the second half before Cian Dooner and Jordan Martin extended Lonford’s lead.

Jordan Martin found the net with a beautiful move as Keelin McGann found Eoghan McCormack with a perfect pass, setting it up for Martin to curl the ball under Larkin from close range.

The two sides exchanged five scores each with McCormack, Finneran and Martin splitting the posts from play as Wexford responded with free’s from Lee Jordan and Robert Murphy.

Jordan Martin sent over Longford’s final score of the game on 52 minutes with Wexford’s Lee Jordan sending over a free a minute into stoppage time as Longford won out 2-17 to seven points.
