This Saturday evening Longford Town will welcome second placed UCD managed by Collie O’Neill to the City Calling stadium in the SSE Airtricity League first division. UCD won their previous game between the two sides by two goals to nil.
Alan Mathews has been looking ahead to the big match in the company of Shannonside FM’s John Lynch. The manager feels that they didn’t do themselves justice the last time out against UCD and he spoke to John about the fact that they are playing well and creating chances but not converting them at the moment and its about having both a solid attack and defence.
When discussing UCD he outlined that they are a good side that play good football and he also was full of admiration for the UCD model- where third level education and high level of football can be provided. In terms of their style- Alan pointed out that they’ve a freedom and energy to their play and that they’ll be competing for the title all season. ‘They are hard to beat and hard to play against. Games in this division are very tough’

Longford Town will be hoping to make it 3 home wins in a row and Enda Curran has nabbed five goals in his last two home appearance although they will be missing all-time leading goalscorer David O’Sullivan.
Elsewhere in the league this weekend Athlone Town have announced Roddy Collins is to take charge at Athlone Town for the second time in his managerial career with his contract running until the end of the current season. The Former Monaghan United manager and former Athlone Town player last managed Athlone in 2013, securing the First Division title and promotion to the top tier of Irish football.Collins will succeed Ricardo Monsanto, who left the club last month after just six weeks in charge, The midlands club are sixth in the SSE Airtricity League First Division table and are still in the midst of an investigation for alleged betting irregularities.
