Longford Town Put Two Past Rovers II

Longford Town got their 2020 SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign off to a winning start with a 2-0 win over Shamrock Rovers II at Bishopsgate.

Local lad Aodh Dervin put the hosts in front on 23 minutes with a low guided effort into the back of the net after some good build up play.

Dervin’s opener preceded his earlier effort that crashed off the post, and Rob Manley also went close in the first-half.

The Hoops second string almost levelled in first-half injury time through Cole Omorehiomnan, but he headed his effort over the bar.

But Manley made the game safe early on 52 minutes, his glancing header found the back of the net to secure the three points for Longford on their opening night of the season.
