Longford Town have confirmed they will fulfil their SSE Airtricity League meetings with Shamrock Rovers II but will play under protest.
The SSE Airtricity League first division gets underway this weekend with the new Shamrock Rovers II or B team traveling to Longford on Saturday night.
In a statement issued on Longford Town’s social media platforms via the “First Division Alliance” the club say they will play Shamrock Rovers II under protest.
The club along with the first division alliance members say they will face Shamrock Rovers B for the 2020 season only.
Also in the statement, it is advised that Shamrock Rovers will field a team of Under-21 players only with one outfield player and goalkeeper from their A panel.
It has also been agreed that the FAI will lead a full review of the League of Ireland’s structure, participation and governance over the next six months.
