Longford Town progressed to the EA Sports Cup second round after a one-nil win over non-league Cockhill Celtic in the City Calling Stadium, writes Kieran Burke.
Longford Town manager, Neale Fenn registered eleven changes from Saturday’s SSE Airtricity league First Division win at home to Drogheda United.
The goal arrived in the fifth minute through Adam Evans.
Shane Elworthy and Peter Hopkins linked up well before playing in Evans and the attacker rounded Cockhill player-manager Gavin Cullen.
It’s the first competitive goal for Longford Town for Evans since his move from Shelbourne.
That was as good as it got for the hosts, as Fenn’s side failed to put the game to bed with their passing and finishing letting them down at times.
Despite much industry, Cockhill Celtic only managed to register a single effort on Jack Menton’s goal.
Longford Town travel to Cabinteely in the SSE Airtricity league first division on Friday, with the Dublin club knocking out Drogheda last night in the EA Sports Cup.
