Longford recorded their first win of their Division 3B campaign with a 2-18 to 16 points win over Leitrim at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Ben Murray opened the scoring for Leitrim, Longford responded with the next six points through Cathal Mullan 0-3 (1f), Enda Naughton 0-2, Cian Kavanagh.
Ben Murray got Leitrim’s second point of the game on 19 minutes sending a penalty over the bar.
Points Karl McDermott, Padraic McWeeney, Gavin O’Hagan made it 0-5 to 0-6 with McDermott’s second score of the game making it six points a-piece on 29 minutes.
David Buckley injury time score gave Longford a one point half-time lead, before Longford continued their scoring sequence to go 13 points clear on 50 minutes.
Gavin O’Hagan and Enda Naughton traded scores. Cathal O’Donovan and Ben Murray found points to make 0-14 to 10. Cian Kavanagh and Enda Naughton increased Longford’s lead to six.
Cathal Mullane put the game beyond doubt on 58 minutes with converted penalty. Mullane then sent over a point to give Longford a 10 point lead.
Ruben Murray found the net four minutes from time to make it 2-18 to 0-11 in Longford’s favour.
Points for Leitrim from Cathal O’Donovan, Colm Moreton, Gavin O’Hagan (2), Kevin McGrath put some respectability on the scoreline.
