Longford secured an O’Byrne Cup semi-final place with a 1-13 to 10 points win over Carlow in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park in a commanding performance.
The hosts raced into a six points to one lead thanks to points from Darran Gallagher (2), Rian Brady (2), Jospeh Hagan and Oran Kenny.
Carlow finally got into the game but trailed at half-time by four points as Longford added to their tally through two Dessie Reynolds points as they led eight points to four at the break.
Longford continued to drive forward in the second half, Joseph Hagan and Darren Gallagher point sending over points.
Dessie Reynolds found the net in 51st minute and the result was never in doubt, with Daragh Doherty hitting the final score of the game with a minute remaining as Longford won out 1-13 to 10 points.
The victory books Longford’s place in the O’Byrne Cup semi-final as they wrap-up their group campaign against Wicklow on January fourth.
