Longford set up a semi-final clash with Meath in the Bord Na Mona O’Byrne Cup after a 1-14 to 13 point win over Kildare at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Robbie Smyth got the all important goal for the Longford men who will now face Meath in Pairc Tailtean, Navan on Sunday January 21.
Smyth had came off injured after scoring the goal. Though says he should be fine for the semi-final.
“Any day you beat Kildare is a good day” explained Smyth. “We’re trying to get Pearse Park as a fortress, so today we came out and lucky came out on the right side of the result.”
“There is new backroom team and management, so there is a new Longford coming up!”
