A last gasp Bernard Allen free earned Offaly a share of the spoils against a depleted Longford side in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Longford had led for much of the majority of the game with the equalising score coming after keeper Paddy Collum was penalised for over carrying as Longford ran down the clock drawing 1-6 to 0-9.
Less than 60 seconds into the game Robbie Smyth forced Offaly keeper Paddy Dunican into making a fine save. A foul in the build-up saw Darren Gallagher sent over.
Nigel Rabbitt then followed up with a point to give Longford a two point lead.
Offaly’s opening score came from a 12th minute Bernard Allen free. Longford stretched their lead to four points when Liam Connerton passed to Gallagher he found the back of the net a minute later.
Anton Sullivan got Offaly’s second point in the 14th minute. Points were traded between Mark Hughes and Allen and free.
Offaly started the second half brightly with two quick fire Bernard Allen points cutting the gap to just one in the 37th minute. Allen then set up sub Shane Tierney in the 39th minute to draw his side level.
Michael Quinn edged Longford ahead with a terrific point in the 40th minute and then three minutes his midfield partner Gallagher scored one just as good.
Sullivan and Gallagher exchanged frees as the game entered the final five minutes.
Eoin Carroll reduced the lead to one point in the five minutes from time and Longford right at the end Allen earned his side a hard earned point.
