Longford in O’Byrne Cup action tonight

Longford play the second round of their O’Byrne Cup tonight at Pairc Chiaran in Newtowncashel.

Offaly are the visitors and come into the game after a convincing win against college side Carlow IT (5-18 – 0-04). Longford on the other hand lost their opening game to Kildare in Newbridge (1-15 – 0-12).

Longford manager Denis Connerton has said the O’Byrne Cup is not one Longford will be focusing on but none the less he will want to see players sticking up a hand for a spot in the team for when the National League comes around at the start of February.

It’s a busy eight days for all the teams in Leinster with the first round games played at the weekend, now the second round tonight which will then be followed by the final round of group games this Sunday.

Some new faces were seen last Saturday and no doubt one or two more may be see tonight.

The two teams are no strangers to each other as they have met a number of times in the Championship over the past few season as well as regular league meetings in division three.

The game throws in at 7:30pm tonight.
