Fenn Wants Return To Winning Ways

Neale Fenn admits his players need to up their game as El Classico see’s Athlone Town arrive in the City Calling Stadium.

Two defeats in two week’s has seen Longford Town fall back to third place in the table, but Cabinteely’s five-nil defeat to Drogheda United sees town just two points off top spot.

“It was a shock” admitted Fenn, “but nothing really surprises me, from what I heard Drogheda’s last game against Shelbourne could have been high scoring aswell. Shels missed a penalty.”

“If you’re not at it and playing against a team like Drogheda who like to attack and have good forwards then anything can happen” explained Fenn.

Fenn believes the result just reinforces how competitive a league the first division is.

“Five points separate first and six” in the first division added the Longford Town boss, repeating his mantra that there are no first division superstars.

“Some teams have lost five or six games and they are still in the mix still, which is unprecedented. Everybody is beating everyone else“.

“You have to be 100% committed for the full game, which we hope to this weekend.”

Out of form Athlone Town visit City Calling Stadium on Saturday night and Longford have a full panel yet Fenn isn’t taking anything for granted.

“They’ve a lot of players we know, its going to be tough. I’ve been drumming it into the lads you can’t expect to turn up and win.

“Athlone are dangerous and can score lots of goals, we’re local rivals and the crowd will be big” we want to win this for our fans.
