Longford Town bowed out of the EA Sports Cup after defending champions Derry City secured a 3-0 victory in Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
19 minutes where on the clock when the candystripes opened the scoring, Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe heading Jamie McDonagh’s cross past Jack Menton.
Eoghan Stokes made it 2-0 on 38 minutes with a sublime 25-yard curling effort after the town had the lion’s share of possession since the opening goal.
Derry’s second half pressure finally came off after a string of Menton saves, the town keeper was eventually beaten. Gerardo Bruna turning the ball home after Menton had pushed out Stoke’s effort.
10 minutes from the end substitute Paddy O’Sullivan stung the hands of Derry keeper Nathan Gartside, but that was the closest the town got.
Menton kept it at 3-0 with two super saves late on, particularly in the last minute denying Jamie McDonagh with Junior sending the rebound over the bar.
