Colmcille End Mullinalaghta’s Longford And Leinster Reign

Defending Leinster and Longford champions St.Columba’s Mullinalaghta have sensationally been knocked out of the Longford championship at the quarter-final stage.

Colmcile ended Mullinalaghta three year reign as Longford champions having come back from a six point second half deficit to win 1-14 to 1-16.

Mullinalaghta had led 1-6 to seven points at half-time thanks in part to a goal from Rian Brady as Colmcille saw Enda Macken sent off for a second yellow card on 25 minutes.

Six minutes into the second half, the 2019 Leinster champions extended their lead to 1-10 to eight points.

Second half points from Vinny Hourican, Brendan Fox and three Barry McKeon free’s dragged Colmcille back into the game as Mullinalaghta’s Francis Mulligan saw red.

A Barry McKeon penalty in injury time edged Colmcille a point ahead with McKeon adding an insurance point before he received a black card and Mullinalaght’a Aidan McElligott saw red.

David McGivney scored a late point but it wasn’t enough as Mullinalaghta bow out and Colmcille will face Killoe in the Longford senior football semi-final.
