Clonguish Gaels marched into the quarter-finals of the Longford junior hurling championship when they beat Wicklow’s Barndarrig 5-11 to 2-6 at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Joe O’Brien scored four first half goals with Stephen Gregg landing the opening goal in the ninth minute as Clonguish held a 5-4 to 2-3 lead at the break.
The Wicklow side found it hard to contain the Longford champions, only managing three second half scores to Clonguish’s seven.
Clonguish now play Mountmellick of Laois in the quarter-final on Saturday November second.
Meath’s Clann na nGael defeated Kildare intermediate finalists Maynooth on a 4-17 to 1-10 score-line to set up a quarter-final meeting with Westmeath side Cullion in two weeks’ time.
Carlow’s Naomh Brid were too strong for Louth’s Naomh Moninne at McGrath Park in Bagenalstown where it finished 3-14 to 1-11,
In the other round 1 clash, Clara (Offaly) were forced to concede a walkover to Dublin champions Fingallians who will face Kilkenny opposition in the quarter-final.
