Longford Town’s away woes continued with a disappointing two-nil defeat away to Cabinteely at Stradbrook on Friday evening writes Andrew Dempsey.
After a bright start, Town found themselves behind just ten minutes before the break.
Shane Barnes and Rob Manley linked up well to force a save from keeper Lee Steacy, but Manley was on hand to steer his rebound home to give Cabo a rather fortuitous lead.
Longford, to their credit pushed for a second half equaliser but were unable to level, with new signing Sean Boyd hitting the post.
However, Manley made sure of the win with seconds to play, firing past Steacy to secure all three points for Cabinteely.
The result see’s Town drop to third place in the SSE Airtricity League first division as Drogheda United beat Limerick 4-1 to move second.
Shelbourne extended their lead to six points after a 2-1 win over Athlone Town.
