Longford Town kept their promotion chase running with a five goal El Clasico victory Athlone Town at the Athlone Town stadium.
Three early first-half goals from Aodh Dervin, Anto Breslin and Sean Boyd had the visitors in control. Dervin finding the net from long range after just two minutes.
Town made it two after 15, Anto Breslin went one-on-one to sliding it past Myles. Loanee Sean Boyd got his second goal in as many gameson 22 minutes after Dylan Grimes ball found a lapse in the Athlone defence.
The final 10 minutes saw a flurry of goals, Peter Hopkins broke through to register Longford’s fourth. Athlone got a consolation through Kealan Dillon but Sam Verdon made it 5-1 from the penalty spot for Town.
Elsewhere all the promotion hopefuls recorded victories, second placed Drogheda United scored a 3-1 win away to Galway United. While Cabinteely were 3-0 winners over Limerick.
Bray Wanderers thumbed Wexford 5-1 to say in the promotion hunt.
