Leitrim kept their Allianz League division three campaign alive and all but relegated Louth to Division 4 with an effective 1-12 to 3-14 Dowdallshill.
Ryan O’Rourke starred for Terry Hyland’s men scoring 2-3 to help seal Leitrim’s first victory of the league campaign and keep their division three campaign alive.
Donal Wrynn opened the scoring for Leitrim in the third minute before Louth struck back with two points before O’Rourke found the net on 13 minutes as Leitrim never trailed again.
Two points from O’Rourke, a Keith Berine free and scores from Mark Plunkett saw Leitrim lead by two points at the break 1-5 to six points.
Ryan Burns and Donal Wrynn exchanged points early in the second-half with Beirne adding two points before slotting home a 49th minute penalty to move Leitrim 2-8 to seven points ahead.
Four minutes later Ryan O’Rourke pounced to give Leitrim a third goal and his second of the day as they moved nine points clear of Louth.
Ryan Burns converted a penalty 13 minutes from time but it made no difference for the hosts as two Darragh Rooney points (1f), Ryan O’Rourke and a Keith Beirne free sealed Leitrim’s eight point win.
