They say buses only come in two’s and that could be said of Leitrim GAA who make their second Croke Park appearance inside two months.
While Terry Hyland’s men have captured national headlines, Martin Cunniffe’s hurlers are all set for revenge when they face Leitirm in Saturday’s Lory Meagher Cup final.
The side’s met in round one of the Lory Meagher on May 18th Lancashire registering a two point win, 20 points to 1-15, the defeat under questionable conditions has only spurred on Leitirm.
“We’re going to Croke Park to sort out one thing!” declared manager Martin Cunniffe, “If we were to pick a team we wanted to play it would be Lancashire, there they are and we’re hear waiting for them.”
The round one defeat certainly hit a raw nerve as explained by Kevin McGrath.
“Our first game we had one official, it’s a national competition, it’s an All-Ireland series game, we have to be treated like a Kilkenny or Tipperary.”
“It’s time more was done for the Lory Meagher and the Nicky Rackard Cup, the competitions need to be promoted more!” added McGrath.
While revenge is on their minds, the Leitrim players can’t wait to run out on the Croke Park turf and put right their 2017 final defeat to Warwickshire.
“We’re really looking forward to it, it’ll be a first for this panel” explained Liam Moreton. “50, 60% of the team have been there before, so hopefully the nerves won’t be there.”
“There doesn’t seem to be as much hype as there was in 2017, the mood in the camp is excellent, everyone is flying it and we’re going to take the occasion and enjoy it” added Moreton.
The 2019 Lory Meagher Cup Final, Leitrim v Lancashire is live on Shannonside from 12 noon this Saturday.
