Leitrim hammered Waterford in their final Allianz League stage game of 2019 with a brilliant 1-20 to 2-9 win in Avantcard Sean McDiarmada.
Michael Currie’s last kick of the match goal for Waterford, took the gloss off Leitrim’s win, who had led 1-13 to five points at half-time.
The victory means Leitrim complete the league with a 100% record at home, having registered their sixth league win and a fourth home win.
Ryan O’Rourke opened the scoring after three minutes, Emlyn Mulligan, Ray Mulvey, Mulligan again and Evan Sweeney made it 0-5 to no score after 11 minutes.
Shane Aherne got Waterford opening point on 13 minutes with Ryan O’Rourke responding sixth seconds later for Leitrim.
David Hallihan got Waterford second score on 17 minutes with Evan Sweeney’s second score of the game a minute later.
Waterford’s Conor Murray sent over a point with Conor Cullen restored the five point lead. Jason Gleeson finding Waterford’s fourth point on 21 minutes.
Domhnaill Flynn sent over a Leitrim free on 22 minutes with David Hallihan made it nine points to five in the 25th minute, Waterford’s final score of the half.
Ryan O’Rourke put the game beyond Waterford a minute later landing finding the net.
Shane Moran, Ryan O’Rourke, Evan Sweeney and Emlyn Mulligan all sent over points to make the half-time score 1-13 to 0-5.
JJ Hutchinson opened the second half with two Waterford points, Emlyn Mulligan got Leitrim first score of the second-half on 46 minutes.
Conor Cullen and Conor Murray exchanged points with Cathal McCauley sending over Leitrim’s 16th point.
Dylan Guiry found the net for Waterford with 11 minutes remaining as Leitrim took their foot off the gas with one eye on Croke Park next Saturday.
A Ryan O’Rourke free was cancelled by a JJ Hutchinson point. Niall Brady then made it 1-18 to 1-9.
Emlyn Mulligan sent over his fifth of the day with Ray Mulvey round off the Leitrim scores in the second minute of additional time.
