Leitrim came totally undone in Netwatch Cullen Park, losing out by 12 points, 2-11 to five points.
A John Murphy penalty and points from Darragh Foley and Sean Murphy gave Carlow a five point lead after just five minutes with Paul Broderick adding a point, four minutes later.
Damien Moran opened the scoring for Leitrim after 13 minutes with Keith Beirne slotting over a second Leitrim point on 17 minutes.
Brendan Murphy landed two points for Carlow with Noel Plunkett and Keith Beirne finding points for Leitrim to leave the score at half-time 1-5 to four points in favour of Carlow.
The expected recovery from Leitrim never materialised in the second half with Paul Broderick adding two points and John Murphy finding a Carlow goal and point by the second half’s 14th minute.
Darragh Rooney found Leitrim’s only point of the second period on 65 minutes as Carlow ran riot with points from Brendan Murphy, Darragh O’Brien and a Paul Broderick free seeing Carlow home to a 12 point victory.
Benny Guickan’s Leitrim have yet to register a single point in division four of the Allianz League as Carlow picked up their third win of the campaign and sit atop the table.
