Aughawillan got the defence of their Connacht Gold Leitrim senior football title off to a flying start with a 2-18 to 1-8 win over Aughnasheelin.
Morgan Quinn converted a penalty bang on half-time to give see Aughawillan head to the dressing room 10 points clear, 1-7 to two points.
Aughnasheelin found the net eight minutes into the second half to make it 1-14 to 4 points.
However the county champions were always in control leading by 10 points heading into the final moments when Gary Plunkett found the net.
The Carrick side got their campaign off to a winning start with a 13-point win, 2-18 to 1-8.
