Declan Rice Opts Out of Ireland Squad

Declan Rice has been left out of the Republic of Ireland’s latest squad, as he considers a potential switch of international allegiance to England.

The West Ham United teenager is not part of the Republic of Ireland squad for the games next month against Wales and Poland.

Rice has already been capped by Ireland three times but has not yet played a competitive international – meaning he could still switch alliegance to England, the country of his birth.

Manager Martin O’Neill says the 19-year-old is ‘deliberating’ whether to commit to Ireland and says the player needs time to make his decision.

James McCarthy, Robbie Brady, Scott Hogan and Sean Maguire have all been ruled out through injury.

Uncapped duo Preston forward Callum Robinson and Kristiansund Sean McDermott have been included in the provisional squad.

The Republic play Wales in their opening Nations League game next week, before a friendly with Poland.
