Hurling Championship underway this weekend

It is championship time on the hurling front this coming weekend with the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher cup competitions all getting underway.

Of interest in the Shannonside region in the Christy Ring Cup will be Roscommons trip away to Ballycran to take on Down on Saturday at 1pm.

Both sides met in the league back in Februray with the Mourne Men coming out on top by 5 points.

Indeed it was a tough Division 2B league campaign for the Rossies as they failed to win a game and were relegated back down to Division 3 while Down finished 3rd in the table with 3 wins from 5 outings.

In the Nicky Rackard cup, Longford will await the winners of the first round of games this weekend before they see action on April on 29th.

This Saturday will see Donegal taking on Armagh, Monaghan up against Tyrone and Louth welcoming Derry.

And in the Lory Meagher Cup, Leitrim make the trip to Brewster park to take on Fermanagh, both sides met in Division 3B of the national league with Leitrim winners on that day.

This competition will also see Cavan make a return to the intercounty hurling scene for the first time since 2011 when they welcome Warwickshire to Kingspan Breffni park, Sligo and Lancashire are the other sides in the competition and they meet in Markievicz park.
